Temporary Works, Gorgon Project, Perth, Australia

R G Parkins & Partners Ltd were appointed to design a number of temporary structures to facilitate construction of two parallel jetties serving the new gas processing base on Barrow Island.

The work involved design to significant wave heights in excess of 2m and wind speeds of 60m/s to replicate sub-hurricane conditions. Australian design standards were applied throughout the work.

Several large barges were back-checked for the installation of elevated accommodation modules and several access stair structures were designed to allow safe access / egress onto the jetty structures 15m above water level. The loading conditions on the access stairs included berthing forces from the supply vessels, in addition to wind and wave forces during operation.
These structures all performed well during two severe winters and were successfully dismantled undamaged on completion of the permanent works.
