Heron Corn Mill - Turbine at Last.....

Watch the video of the turbine arriving at Heron Corn Mill on Vimeo.

Shafts of sunlight shone down through the trees onto the snowdrops lining the banks of the River Bela.  March 10th was a day when new high technology would sit alongside a waterwheel and mill race approximately 900 years old.  A Kaplan low head turbine and associated generator were finally delivered to site, to be installed into the new powerhouse which has been constructed on the weir adjacent to the old mill.

Manufactured by NHT Engineering of Northern Ireland, the turbine was raised from its delivery truck and slowly lowered through the roof of the powerhouse, followed by the generator.

Commissioning of the equipment will follow, and it is hoped that the turbine will generate around 100kW of power.  Target date for power generation is early April 2010.
